Wiin Project: Testing for Lead in Drinking Water at Schools and Child Care Facilities
In cooperation with the Hawai‘i State Department of Health (DOH) and Hawai‘i State
Department of Human Services (DHS), the Hawai‘i State Department of Education
(HIDOE) will begin testing drinking water sources for lead at 106 schools starting May
2021.
Authorized under the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, the
Lead Testing in School and Child Care Program Drinking Water Grant creates a
voluntary program to assist with testing for lead in drinking water at schools and child
care programs. Schools and facilities were chosen for testing based on the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency’s risk assessment criteria, which includes the age of
the facility and grade levels served. A list of schools and child care facilities that will
be tested will be posted on the project website: http://health.hawaii.gov/WIIN.
